Our expertise extends beyond mushroom cultivation and mushroom wellness products. We are the only company in Australia to offer professional MYCOTHERAPY consultations, guiding our customers in harnessing mushrooms as powerful natural medicine. We also work with Naturpath's, Functional Medicine practitioners, TCM practitioners etc to support them in selection and understanding of the benefits of functional mushrooms for their clientele.
As mycotherapists, we approach mushrooms with both reverence and scientific understanding. Mycotherapy – the use of mushrooms in health and healing – allows us to bridge traditional knowledge with modern clinical research. Julie-Ann Harper (director) witnessed loved ones struggle with cancer and dementia, she was driven to seek nature’s answers. Training in mycotherapy gave her the knowledge to understand how mushrooms could support wellness and, in some cases, act as powerful adjunct therapies. PLEASE NOTE: We understand the importance of using high-quality imported whole mushrooms (and extracted on site) when necessary versus growing them ourselves, ensuring we AVOID shortcuts and never produce ineffective mushroom-on-grain products as seen with other Australian suppliers. Remember this:

HISTORY AND MILESTONES
A TRUE STORY OF INNOVATION
In the serene pursuit of Organic, Medicinal, and Gourmet mushrooms, OMG Mushrooms embarked on a five-year journey of quiet cultivation. However, the tranquility was disrupted by two significant shifts in the landscape. Firstly, the rigid amendments in Australian Biosecurity laws dictated stringent regulations, allowing only Shiitake and Turkey Tail to be grown locally. Lion's Mane and Maitake were banned also but recently permitted. The ban on these medicinal mushrooms left a void in Australia's holistic well-being only to be filled by companies utilising Australian local substitutes and mycelliated grain products. This was a glaring concern as most scientific studies investigating the health benefits of such products such as Lion's Mane mushrooms focus on Hericium erinaceus due to its established history of use in traditional medicine and the availability of research (not Australian Hericium coralloides).
Secondly, the commendable ban on old growth logging, a move appreciated for environmental reasons, inadvertently led to a shortage of the most natural mushroom substrate material – kiln dry sawdust. This vital source of nutrition for mushrooms became scarce, challenging the essence of what makes our mushrooms truly exceptional.
It was NOT an option for OMG Mushrooms to provide AN INFERIOR MYCELLIATED GRAIN PRODUCT.
Determined to preserve the authenticity and medicinal prowess of our offerings, years of meticulous research unfolded. The revelations were profound and, at times, disheartening. The mushroom market was plagued by a lack of regulation, shifting TGA guidelines, and narratives from existing mushroom providers sadly discrediting products from China. The desire to do more than the ordinary spurred us to seek the best alternatives, emphasising organic practices and aligning with nature's intended way of bioavailability.
Not only have we sourced the finest raw mushrooms, but our commitment extends to preserving traditional methods of consumption. Through extensive research, we've uncovered the ancient Chinese method of 'Honey Pills' which we've renamed, Myco-Honey Pearls' — a time-tested approach to enhance bioavailability. By combining the healing properties of mushrooms with the enriching essence of honey, our mushroom honey pearls bring tried-and-true traditions to the modern world, ensuring you experience the full spectrum of healing compounds in a form that transcends time.
Mushroom Products
With NO Mushrooms
Through our research we learnt that the functional mushroom marketplace was dominated by products that did not contain ANY mushrooms. These products are produced from mycelium (the root system of the mushroom) being grown on a grain substrate (image on right).
Commonly marketed as “mushroom” yet they contain no mushrooms at all (in image we let our myceliated grain grow out so you could see it was a bag of lion's mane mushroom mycelium but ordinarily it would be harvested before you see a mushroom fruiting body). On top of that, the grain is not separated from the mycelium so these products are primarily the grain that the mycelium is growing on.
Many consumers and even health practitioners are being misled into believing they are consuming mushrooms when in fact the products are nothing more than mycelium cultured grain, much like the food product Tempeh.
